Qatar (2022)

Als er een wereldkampioenschap gekocht wordt door een land zonder voetbalcultuur, waar 6500 arbeidsmigranten bij het bouwen van stadions overlijden, moet voetballiefde wijken voor protest.

Ik ontwierp voetbalplaatjes als steunbeteuging aan de anonieme verongelukte arbeiders uit o.a. Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India en Nepal. De voetbalplaatjes werden als protestposters door Amsterdam geplakt, met hulp van mede-sausers Oskar Maarleveld en Janneke Hooijmans. Ondanks dat posters soms binnen uren door commerciële plakkers werden overplakt waren ze toch effectief omdat kranten als Het Parool en NL Times de boodschap oppikten.

Ik heb overigens slechts 3 wedstrijden van het WK in Qatar bekeken.

If a world championship is bought by a nation without a football culture, where 6,500 migrant workers died when building stadiums, protest prevails over football love. 

I designed football trading cards to support the anonymously deceased workers from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India and Nepal. The trading cards were spread in Amsterdam as protest posters, which I put up with the generous help of Oskar Maarleveld and Janneke Hooijmans. Despite the fact that the posters got covered by commercial billboards within hours, they still were effective, as papers such as Het Parool and NL Times reported about the intervention on their websites

By the way, I only watched 3 games of Qatar World Cup.
